The Government’s ambitious initiative to streamline the procurement process for goods and services is set to go digital, enhancing efficiency, transparency, and accountability. Spearheaded by the National Procurement Commission (NPC), this transition involves extensive discussions and consultations among government agencies, state-owned enterprises, and international development partners.

This progressive move aligns with the Marape Government’s agenda to bolster the NPC’s capabilities, ensuring a more effective and responsive procurement system. The drive began with the appointment of Mr. Joseph Sapa as the new Acting Chief Executive Officer, swiftly followed by the formation of a new board led by the Secretary for Finance, Mr. Samuel Penias.

Key international entities, including the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Union, and the Government of New Zealand, are providing crucial support for the e-procurement system. The inaugural stakeholder consultation meeting was convened at the Apec Haus, Port Moresby, on Friday, 19 July, marking the start of a concerted effort to implement this innovative solution without delay.
